FMP week 3

Tuesday:
On Tuesday I finished working on my second big collage piece as well as adding the Ben Day dots to my first, in recognition of a pop art style piece. I also got some images I found online printed out that I plan to use in 2 collages. One set of images for a War themed collage which I did in my book on Wednesday, and one set of images for a collage related to the comics code authority, a movement set up in the 50s to censor comicbooks for children.

Wednesday:
In the morning I was busy making my War themed collage by spending the first half of the lesson thinking about layout and structure to create a background, and the second half in sticking down the images and adding the overlay.

In graphics I finished everything up on my Illustrator piece, got it printed out and continued my research into comic book history. My work can be found here http://luketomlinsongraphicstownscape.blogspot.co.uk/

In Art History we had a group discussion about Critical responses to the work of Tracey Emin using the work we collected over the past couple of weeks.

FMP week 2

Tuesday:
So in the morning to prepare for my collage work, I collected research on artists who worked in collage, which can be found in my book and then using my research I have since been working on my own collages in my book and on stretched paper.
My first collage I did is in reference to classic comic onomatopoeia bubbles that became popular from the 60s Batman tv show. I collected some previews catalogs for my work and then arranged them working on the colours from orange to green. I then glued the white lettering on and cut out the black boarders.
I plan on adding Ben-Day dots to the white to give the background some detail and as a reference to other artists who have used this like Roy Lichenstein.

Wednesday:
In the morning we looked at composition in our collages by doing an exercise looking at how to structure our piece using geometric shapes, experimenting with different backgrounds and layouts which we will then apply to a bigger collage using our base of work.

In the afternoon for graphics we continued working on our illustrator piece, I added a gradient and a repeat pattern, my work for this can be found here http://www.luketomlinsongraphicstownscape.blogspot.co.uk/
In the afternoon because I had finished my Tracy Emin work for my homework, I put my work in my folder and helped others with their work. (I also disabled a virus that was on one of the laptops, but that's irrelevant)

Friday:
Friday I kinda juggled my tasks, in the morning I began by creating my bigger collage based on my designs using black card, newspaper and red card but because I had to keep waiting for the glue to dry I was also working on researching the history of comic books because I plan on putting a timeline of significant events in my sketch book. I then contnued working on my collage by gluing comic books and characters onto my collage to link into my theme. (no pics yet because it was still wet)

Homework:
I created a collage in my book yesterday which I made to reflect the journey of imagination to a comic book reader. Starting at the top left corner at the comic shop, then onto comics themselves, into the panels and then the characters represent imagination itself. I chose the most fantastical panel to cut out to reflect the power of imagination.

I also have been thinking about ideas to do for my collage and came up with:
Using Nazi comic book character to form a swastika
Combining War time comics with real photos from the war
Painting an American flag over a photomontage of patriotic american comic covers
And I was thinking for my final collage, to look at the comic code authority, Dr. Frederick Wertham's "Seduction of the Innocent" and the ideas he talks about in his book to say why comics are bad for children.

FMP week 1

In this week all my work mainly consisted of idea building towards my final major project.
My previous three books have been completed and I began creating the basis for my ideas.
For the theme I'm basing the project on myself as an auobiography, linking into my interests.

Also in Life drawing I produced an A2 painting.

Townscape week 8 finishing up

Tuesday:
Whilst others were finishing up their collage paintings, I had finished mine and was finishing up work in my book.
In 3D, I finished painting my sculpture, and I decided to glue some black wire mesh onto the sides to represent windows. I was originaly just going to hold it over and paint squares on from the grid, but I thought glueing the wire on would work and look better.

Wednesday:
In textiles, I finished my body supported structure by adding graphiti onto the torso piece and I stuck some more details on like a wire mesh for a window and various pieces of cloth.

In Graphics, we looked at applying effects and distortions to our adobe piece, my work can be found here http://luketomlinsongraphicstownscape.blogspot.co.uk/
In art history we finished our work on Tracy Emin and got given a new project of analysing how her work is projected through media such as tabloid newspapers, tv and art critics.

Friday:
Friday was primarily a catch up day and I just spent it putting my work in my sketch book.

Wednesday:
I continued working on my body supported structure by covering it in materials so that next week it just needs touching up and is finished

In graphics I experimented with the brush tools into my illustrator townscape piece, which can be found on my graphics blog here http://luketomlinsongraphicstownscape.blogspot.co.uk/

and in Art history we looked at the work of Tracy Emin and what her work represents in her life.
